Course
Aim:
This qualification is designed to enable students to communicate with Deaf people using British Sign Language on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use.

Course Structure:
The qualification is divided into 3 separate units:
1.
BSL 101- Introduction to BSL
This unit equips students to understand and use a limited range of simple words and sentences in BSL.
Assessment 101 will take place on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 November 2007.
This will be an individual face-to-face assessment conducted and assessed by your tutor.
The assessment will be videotaped.
2.
BSL 102 - Conversational BSL
This unit equips students to take part in simple conversations or instructions in BSL in relation to activities at home, e.g. using numbers, describing interests and commenting on the weather.
Assessment 102 will take place on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 March 2008.
Your tutor will conduct a 5-minute conversation with you on a topic supplied by CACDP.
The assessment will be videotaped and the tapes sent to CACDP for marking by independent assessors.
3.
BSL 103 - BSL at School, College or Work
This unit equips students to take part in simple conversations or instructions in BSL in relation to activities at work, school or college, e.g. describing the building, activities carried out, transport used, directions.
Assessment 103 will take place on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 May 2008.
Your tutor will conduct a 5-minute conversation on topics supplied by CACDP.
The assessment will be videotaped and the tapes sent to CACDP for marking by independent assessors.
Course Commitment:
The course runs for three terms 29 weeks including assessments)
from September 2007 until May 2008. Classes are 2
hours long.
The JDA provides 52 hours of classroom study. It is recommended
that students also undertake regular home study or practice.
