NEW
GROUP FOR DEAF MEMBERS!

345 Group Launched!
345 Group is a new activities group for Deaf people aged 30-60
years.
JDA launched the new 345 Group on April 17th 2005.
About 40 people in the age group 30s 40s and 50s came to JDA for
a special Launch Evening. It was a very successful lively evening
with Jeff McWhinney, the former Executive Director of the
BDA as the Guest of Honour. A light buffet with drinks were served
all around. Pictures of activities were displayed on the noticeboard
with list of activities for people to tick their preferences and
also to write down their ideas.
Barry David, the Group organiser welcomed everyone to the Launch
Evening and showed his excellent powerpoint presentation. This is
what Barry has to say
'The evening was a success and enjoyed by all, it was nice
to see some new faces. Jeff delivered a very positive speech and
has become a member of the 345 Group which is great. He said he
wanted to join a group his whole family could attend.
The original idea of the group came from Kay Kaufman, as
she felt there was a gap in the market for this specific age group
and so work began on setting it up. The age group is over 30yrs
of age and under 60yrs. All Jewish and non-Jewish are very welcome
to attend. We are aiming to hold various events/activities on a
three monthly basis. Our first event will be a BBQ (19th June) to
be held in Trent Country Park. On the night of the launch people
were asked to contribute ideas which proved very popular and we
now have a list of activities suitable for the members and their
families.
There was a question and answer session at the end regarding
membership, events, family attendance, etc., and all these questions
were noted. Membership is £5.00 per year even if you are already
a member of the JDA as this is a separate group. Families are most
welcome to attend although on the odd occasion there maybe some
activities not suitable for children.
I am the Group Co-ordinator so any information or ideas that
anyone may have is to contact me in the first instance. Kay is the
Publicity Officer and has a wealth of experience as she has been
Editor of the JDA magazine for a number of years now. So anything
to do with Publicity Kay should be contacted.'
