Role Description
Title: Day Centre Members’ Activities Volunteer
Purpose: Assisting in the smooth running of day centre
Working with:

Activities & Information Officer - Kay Kaufman

Older members of the Jewish Deaf and Deafblind community
Activities:
Morning
Welcome people at the door and take their money until cover arrives
Chat with members in Lauffer Hall, engaging those who are left out
Show photo slideshows of JDA members at previous events
Play board games
Immediately report health and safety or behavioural issues that arise
Assist with announcements if necessary
Lunchtime
Prepare for afternoon activity, arrange furniture and set up equipment
Answer door to late-comers
Afternoon
Help run activity
Take photos
In time, possibly run an alternative simple activity in the dining room
Teatime
Take photos of special tea parties in action
Sell take-away suppers
Help with taxis if necessary.
Requirements:
Fluent BSL skills
Friendly personality
Flexibility
Willingness to help at any level
Time: Wednesdays 09.30am – 3.30pm
Location: Jewish Deaf Association, Woodside Park Road, London N12 8RP
Supervision: Volunteer will report directly to the Community Centre Manager and have regular contact with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Benefits: Full Professional Indemnity insurance
If any errand arises, driving mileage reimbursed up to 40p/mile and parking cost reimbursed
Meal provided
Other out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed with prior agreement (but not parking at JDA)
