Welcome to LIPSINC's website.

New Initiative!

LIPSINC is a new initiative! It's the first-ever group for Jewish people in their 20's and 30's, who are deaf or hard of hearing and whose main method of communication is speech.

LIPSINC WHO ARE WE?

1. We are Jewish people, mainly in our 20's and 30's, all with varying types and levels of hearing losses, including:

  • Single-sided deafness
  • Deafened
  • Hard of hearing
  • Severe to moderate hearing loss
  • Profound deafness.

2. We use speech as our main method of communication.

WHAT IS LIPSINC?

Let's make this clear … LIPSINC is NOT a self-help group!
It is an opportunity for us to meet other people with whom we have common ground … and for some of us, this is a first!

We socialise, share ideas and experiences, and pick up useful information about the services, technology and equipment that are available to make our lives easier. Right now we are putting our talents together in project teams to organise our calendar of social, information and fundraising events and activities.

LIPSINC is the FIRST OF ITS KIND … an exciting and innovative project that is bringing together a vibrant group of people.

WHY IS IT CALLED LIPSINC ?

The name LIPSINC - encapsulates the whole meaning of who we are.

The word lipsync - spelt L I P S Y N C - describes how a performer's lips move in synchronization with a pre-recorded soundtrack. It is generally used in films, or it might be said when performers on Top of the Pops don't sing live, but mime the words!

The name LIPSINC is a play on the word but spelt differently. When the name was thought up, it was based on these three things:

  • LIPS: Our communication revolves around LIPS, both in speaking and lip-reading.

  • INC: Emphasises inclusiveness, bringing together unique types of people who have experienced exclusion in many different ways.

  • LIPSINC: Say it quickly and LIP SINC is, of course, about the synchronicity of people with similar life experiences being on the same wavelength.
