THE NEW MANAGEMENT OF THE
JEWISH DEAF ASSOCIATION

At the end of 2004, to comply with the requirements of the Charity Commission, the Jewish Deaf Association became a Company Limited by Guarantee. There are no changes to the work of the JDA, but the management structure has now changed -the JDA Council no longer exists and the JDA is managed by a Board of Directors. It is hoped to find new Directors to join the Board.

THE FIRST BOARD OF DIRECTORS

In 2003, the JDA Council agreed that the current Honorary Officers and Central Committee Appointee should act as the first Board of Directors. The Directors are currently:

Mrs Evelyn Gee - Chair
George M Gee JP - President
Mrs Trudy Kling - Vice Chair
Norman Raitz FCA - Hon Treasurer
Robert Graham FCA - Hon Secretary
Ilan Dwek - Central Committee Appointee

ADDITIONAL DIRECTORS

The Board can appoint up to 9 Directors in total. There are now 3 vacancies.

Every year, one Director must be chosen by the Central Committee. This person does not have to be a member of the Central Committee, and does not REPRESENT the Central Committee - they are CHOSEN by the Central Committee.

WHO IS THE RIGHT PERSON TO BECOME A DIRECTOR?

The Board is committed to ensuring that the expanded Board is made up of:

· Individuals of integrity
· Who clearly understand the overall purposes and aims of the JDA
· And have the relevant skills, knowledge and experience to be able to contribute to the Board positively, usefully and actively in taking responsibility for controlling the management of the JDA.

MEMBERS OF THE COMPANY

You must be a "Member of the Company" if you want to:

1. Nominate someone to be a Director
2. Vote at the JDA AGM
3. Become a Director.

Therefore, all people who want to be actively involved in supporting the aims of the JDA are invited to apply to become Members of the Company.

You can get an application form from Claire Baer at the JDA.

APPLYING TO BECOME A DIRECTOR

A job description will soon be available to enable people wishing to apply to become Directors to understand fully the obligations and responsibilities they would be taking on as Directors under the Companies Act and as Trustees under the Charities Act.

You can get a job description from Claire Baer at the JDA.

ANY QUESTIONS

If you have any questions about the new management structure, or if you would like to talk privately about whether or not you might be suitable to join the Board of Directors, please contact Sue Cipin at the JDA.
