Israeli Deafblind Theatre Performance - 'Not by Bread Alone'
|

‘Not by Bread Alone’ is a show performed by the Nalaga’at Israeli Deafblind Theatre Company. The group is coming all the way from Israel to the Arts Depot in North Finchley, and this is an experience not to be missed.
Eleven deafblind actors will be performing in this special show, through music, humour, mime, magic and bread-making. The show will awaken your senses, as you smell the baking of bread filling the theatre. Together, during the process of bread making, they recreate vivid memories, experiences and fantasy dreams to engage the audience, using their touch sign language.
There will be a BSL interpreter, as the actors will be signing in Israeli sign language.
The JDA has reserved 30 of the best seats for this remarkable show. We have also reserved the special Café Kapish for a set supper at 6pm, where you can enjoy Mediterranean food, served by Deaf waiters in sign language.
(There is also a dark BlackOut Bar where wine and snacks are served by blind waiters.)
Supper at Café Kapish – 6 pm
Show starts – 8 pm
Transport will be provided for Day Centre Members who cannot travel on their own.

Talk - 'My Travels in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Dubai
|

Martin Bogard will give a slideshow presentation and talk about his travel experiences in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Dubai. Knowing Martin, some of his stories will be very funny too!
Martin and Heidi visited the magnificent Hartbeespoort Dam which lies at the foot of the Magliesberg Mountains and has a remarkable private park. They rode on a hot air balloon and also came to face and stroke a fully grown cheetah and African elephants. They went to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town and visited Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in jail and is now a World heritage site.
They also went to see the spectacular thundering Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and then to Dubai, where they went to the World's tallest building. On their return home they flew with Airbus 380.
Come along for an evening of Martin’s entertaining and humurous travel stories. To book your place, please fill in the yellow reply slip enclosed.

Talk 'Safety on London Buses'
|

For many Londoners, London buses are an essential part of their lives to get from A to B.
In January 2010 we had a talk on this subject and the members asked lots of questions about London Buses and tubes. Not all the questions could be answered immediately at the time.
So PC Richard Nelson, PCSO Reece MacDonagh and PCSO Hannah Clark will be coming again to the JDA to respond to the questions asked last time. They hope you will give them many new questions too!
Come along to this very important afternoon and get the answers.

Seaside Outing to Brighton
|

Day Centre will be closed on 28 July as we are going to the seaside. The Wednesday Club Committee has generously paid for the coach to help keep the cost down.
Join us on this wonderful trip to Brighton and take a breath of sea air. Visit the Royal Pavillion, go shopping in the famous Brighton Lanes or walk down the Victorian Pier.
Will you be brave enough for a dip in the sea? Bring your swimwear, weather permitting!
This is a great opportunity to go outdoors and enjoy the summer sunshine. Bring packed lunch if you wish, or enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants or a seafront cafe.
Pack your hat and suntan lotion for the sunshine.

Talk - History of Grodzinski Bakery
|

The history of the Grodzinski family in England dates back to 1888 when Harris and Judith Grodzinski arrived from Lithuania to England, bringing with them the art of great bread making. They hired ovens from another kosher baker and set up the business from a market barrow in London's East End, establishing a baking tradition that still continues to this day.
They specialise in bread and chollahs as well as all types of confectionery. They also design cakes and cookies for any occasion.
Monica Gubbay, who is a part of the Grodzinski family, will come to talk about her family’s famous bakery business and show some photos.
Come along and learn about the fascinating history of Grodzinski Bakery.
